About the Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown

A Foundation was formed…
The Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown (FLITE), a tax-exempt, non-profit educational foundation, was formed in 2006 by a group of concerned residents of the Tredyffrin/Easttown area.

FLITE’S overall purpose is to help to assure the continuation of educational excellence for all of the public school children in Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships and the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. FLITE targets its funding toward programs that reach groups and individual students who are unable to take full advantage of the curriculum and activities that the District offers.

The Tredyffrin/Easttown School District is outstanding…
Recent news accounts have highlighted the excellent performance of T/E schools. For example, in recent years T/E has ranked #1 in Pennsylvania in the PSSA standardized tests that are administered to students in elementary, middle and high schools; Conestoga High School has been listed as #1 in the ranking of National Merit scholars; and Philadelphia Magazine and U. S. News and World Report have both listed T/E at the top regionally and nationally.

But not all students achieve success, even in T/E…
Not all children in the T/E School District have the financial, emotional, and environmental support to succeed. These situations can be temporary or long lasting. These students (many of whom have been part of our community their whole academic lives) may never reach their full potential. Some lack transportation, necessary for participating in pre-school, after-school, or remedial activities. Some lack the preparation, support systems, or skills required for success in our fast-paced school environment.

The T/E School District has worked hard to address many of these limitations, but clearly more needs to be done. We have an opportunity, here and now, to help these children gain the tools needed to be successful.

FLITE has a special priority…
FLITE’s founders have adopted a special mission: to support programs that reach groups and individual students who are unable to take full advantage of what the District offers. This may include preparatory and supplemental programs that better allow all children to participate fully in the offerings of the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. FLITE aims to invest in helping these students, and thereby invest in the good of our entire community.

The result…
FLITE’s efforts will support educational excellence and enhance student achievement, especially among children who face obstacles to their learning due to difficult financial, home or family situations.

The School District is very supportive of FLITE…
FLITE is independent of the T/E School District, but will work very closely with the District in evaluating program grant requests. FLITE’s formation was driven by a group of T/E residents, working closely with District administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, support personnel, parents, and community leaders.

Community support will guarantee a successful FLITE…
FLITE makes so much sense for so many reasons. It supports excellence in our schools and emphasizes assistance for students who need to receive extra help. Everyone benefits. The historic generosity of T/E residents will make FLITE a long-term fixture in the community.
