Proposals and Grants
If you have an idea for a program that might benefit the children attending our public schools, we’d love to hear from you. You can download an FLITE GrantApplication2.11.11 here which will be used to describe your program, or you can request assistance by contacting us by phone or e-mail. Our Proposal Review and Evaluation Committee will be in touch with you and will assign a member of our committee to assist you in completing and presenting your application for a grant.
The Proposal Review and Evaluation Committee meets monthly to consider proposals for program grants. Please remember that your application will be judged on how well your program meets the FLITE mission of helping public school district students realize their full potential. We will consider how the program will be implemented, the program’s impact on the District and its students, how it can be evaluated in terms of its effectiveness, and whether your program budget can best be met by available FLITE funds.
For assistance or questions, please call us at 610-240-1860 or send an e-mail to Kathy Lieb, the Program Grants Chair, at KCL53@aol.com. You can also write to FLITE at info@FLITE-pa.org.

Summer Reading Book at CHS - The FLITE Club at Conestoga High School sold copies of the required summer reading book, “the curious incident of the dog in the night-time” by Mark Haddon. This event provided students with financial need, free copies so they can satisfy the summer assignment. In addition, this book sale provided a service to all students by offering the book at a $2.00 discount on the retail price with the added benefit of increasing awareness of FLITE. (1st approved: spring 2010)
Bookmark Art Program – Each school runs a bookmark contest through the arts program centered around FLITE and education. A winner is selected at each school and the bookmarks are printed and distributed in the local area. The students are recognized at the January School Board Meeting. (1st approved: fall 2007)
BUCKS Program (Better Understanding of Cash for Kids) – Some CHS students are lacking general financial knowledge needed to make good decisions related to money. (1st approved: fall 2008)
CHS Graphing Calculators – Conestoga High School students are required to take three years of high school math and all the classes require a graphing calculator. The recommended calculator is a TI 83/84 graphing calculator. FLITE is providing CHS with graphing calculators to loan to selected students during their high school years. (1st approved: summer 2008)

These are supplemental to the activities currently provided by the CHS Guidance Department. (1st approved: late winter 2008)
Computers for Kids – Having a computer at home is as important these days as having a pencil and paper. (1st approved: fall 2008)
Paoli Library Summer Safari – The Paoli Library runs a summer reading enrichment program that provides hands-on learning incentives to keep children reading throughout the summer. Parent Engagement Component in the Elementary After School Club – Supplements and enhances the T/E Elementary After School Club by proving parents an opportunity to learn strategies for helping their students use the skills they learn in school. (1st approved: fall 2008)
Homework Oasis – Homework Oasis is an after-school homework club at Valley Forge Middle School that will be staffed by VFMS teachers. It will begin in September, 2006, and runs 4 afternoons/week. The intent is to provide a quiet, nurturing place for students to complete class assignments and projects and to study for tests, particularly those children who don’t have a good opportunity to get help at home. Students are admitted by recommendation of their guidance counselors, and will be given academic help, snacks and transportation home. FLITE has committed to cover the cost of transportation. Stated Andy Mullen, VFMS counselor, in October 2007, “Homework Oasis is already making a difference. Our students are completing more homework and performing better in school. They like how it feels to do well, and the positive momentum is taking hold.” (1st approved: summer 2006)
TEMS Homework Club – The mission of this club is to provide students with a quiet and supportive environment to complete homework, work on projects and study for tests. TEMS staff and volunteer tutors work with the students in this program. FLITE is supporting this program by covering the costs of transportation for eligible students in the Homework Club. (1st approved: fall 2006)
Elementary After School Club – The T/E After-School Club is an after-school program staffed by district teachers and aides, and a social skills mentor. The mission is to identify and invite students in grades two through four to participate in a program designed to provide general academic assistance, homework help, recreation, social interaction, and mentorship for every-day living. Students will be invited to participate based on administrative recommendation, with emphasis on those who have circumstances that create barriers to their ability to experience the full benefit of education in the T/E School District. The program began in the fall of 2006, and runs four afternoons/week at each of the five elementary buildings. FLITE has committed to cover transportation and some of the staffing costs. (1st approved: fall 2006)
Preschool Initiative – FLITE has partnered with the Upper Main Line YMCA and other area preschools to help provide preschool opportunities to children in the area who might not otherwise have the chance to attend preschool. (1st approved: spring 2007)
Music In Our Schools – Participation in the band and/or orchestra is a big part of the school experience for many district children. These music programs begin as early as 3rd grade and continue through the high school. In order for a child to participate in the band or orchestra, access to a musical instrument is critical. FLITE is providing the funds to cover rental costs for selected students who are unable to access the instruments on their own. (1st approved: fall 2006)
Summer Reading Support Program – This program involves a partnership with Delaware Valley Friends School, FLITE and the T/E School District. The program, held at DVFS, provides scholarships for T/E District middle school students who need additional help with reading skills. (1st approved: spring 2007)
Summer Reading Books – FLITE is supporting the middle school staff and FLITE Club at the high school by providing funds to supplement the purchase of books for the summer reading requirements. Each student that needs books will be able to own their own copies. Some books will be collected and recycled from students each year. (1st approved: spring 2008)
The 2006/2007 school year and 2007 summer programs supported by FLITE were quite successful. Read some quotes from students, staff, and parents that reflect thoughts on those programs.
